Dry Type

PRIMA (VPI) ventilated dry type transformers are ideal for most industrial and commercial applications. These transformers provide excellent mechanical and short-circuit strength, no danger of fire or explosion, no liquids to leak, less weight than comparable cast coil units, low total ownership costs and low initial costs. They use an IS11171 listed 80˚C/115˚C/220˚C insulation system, regardless of temperature rating. Low installation, maintenance and operation costs make PRIMA VPI transformers a worhty investment. VPI transformers are non-explosive with high resistance to flame and do not require vaults, containment dikes, or expensive fire suppression systems.

(VPI) dry-type transformers – Vacuum-pressure impregnated (VPI) transformers are particularly suited for a wide range of commercial applications. Vacuum pressure impregnation of the windings includes a preheat, dry vacuum cycle; vacuum immersion; vacuum hold cycle; pressure cycle; and curing. This VPI process saturates the dielectric material, which contributes to its long life and durability. The secondary windings are constructed with sheet or wire conductors and Nomex insulation. The primary windings are wound over the secondary winding in either barrel or disc construction. These processes make the Power-Dry transformer ideal for office buildings, hotels, and shopping malls.

1 Zeroing corona generation is possible ,so to enable the transformer, not to fail prematurely Zeroing corona generation is not possible, causing failure in coils during operation.
2 Economic to repair, since part of coil & copper can be easily replaced /retrieved. Impossible to repair the transformer, since recovery of copper & lamination not possible
3 The VPI /Epoxy shielded design has benefits of unequal environmental protection, high impulse level, low sound & superior short circuit strength. Cracking of epoxy mould due to thermal cycling.
4 Less weight ,smaller dimension for easier handling & installation, fire resistance & no bursting of Tank Heavier in weight, bigger dimensions hence, difficult in handling & installation.
5 VPI / Epoxy shield transformer are maintenance free Less resistance to cracking, hence regular maintenance required.
